John Betjeman, former Poet Laureate, wrote about English landscape, churches, trains, his weaknesses, women, as well as lambasting officialdom, sometimes with affection, sometimes with satire, often with humour, but always with passion.

It's his passion and intensity of feeling that comes across so vividly in his poetry.

How to get on in Society, scripted by Sue Hutton, draws on his poetry, his broadcasts and his journalism, as a snapshot of his life.

Sue will sing eight of the poems, set to music by Madeline Dring and Mervyn Horder, accompanied by Geoffrey Carter.

The other readers are Gill Carter, Angela Finch, Ray Morris-Chapman and Tom Chambers.

Be prepared to sing a couple of hymns, and there will be a bedtime story!
